Congregants celebrates Palm Sunday

The Bible reveals that when Jesus entered Jerusalem, the crowds greeted him by waving palm branches and covering his path with palm branches.

KABOKWENI – In remembrance of what happened prior to the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, more than 450 congregants from White River Parish church together with the locally based St Marks Catholic Church, celebrated their yearly Palm Sunday.

“This is the time Christians celebrate the triumphant entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem, the week before his death and resurrection.

The Bible reveals that when Jesus entered Jerusalem, the crowds greeted him by waving palm branches and covering his path with palm branches, hence we celebrate this day as part of the Easter Celebrations,” explained the priest in charge Father (Fr) Lawrence Marekula.

On Sunday, Fr Lawrence emulating the scriptures as Jesus Christ, came to the crowd riding a donkey recalling Christ entering Jerusalem while the crowd sang “Hosanna to the Highest!”
“Blessed is He who come in the name of the Lord!” The celebration was attended by more than 450 people.

As part of the Holy Week, the church will celebrate the Pascal Meal at St Marks Catholic Church on Wednesday.

“On Thursday we will be celebrating the Last Supper known as Institution of the two sacraments – Priesthood and the Eucharist,” said Marekula.
He said the Holy Mass will start at 18:00.

“On Good Friday members of the church will have a retreat at St Paul Catholic Church from 09:00 until 16.00, with a Holy Saturday night vigil to start from 20:00 until the next morning,” he said.
