New born baby found abandoned in a shop

The baby was discovered in one of the plastic basins sold at the shop, wrapped in a new blanket that was also taken from the shop.

THULAMAHASHE – Shopping at Jet stores was brought to a standstill yesterday after the shop’s manager discovered a new-born baby covered with blankets in a bath tub.

The manager, Ms Sheila Manyike confirmed that indeed a baby was found, but could not further disclose any information regarding her discovery because she is “not allowed to speak to the media.”

According to the police who were alerted about the baby boy estimated to be three days old, Manyike found the baby in one of the plastic basins sold at the shop, wrapped in a new blanket that was also taken from the shop.

“We suspect that the mother could have hidden the baby in her handbag when she walked into the shop and it seems as if she had planned to abandon the baby boy there,” stated Capt Nelson Khoza.

Khoza added that the baby was taken to Tintswalo Hospital and a case of child neglect has been opened.

“We will try everything in our power to locate the mother and we urge anyone with information that can lead to establishing her whereabouts to contact Mhala police station on 013 773 0331 or 013 773 9080,” Khoza pleaded.
