MASOYI – A law to prosecute water thieves may soon come into effect if the Mbombela Local Municipality has its way.
This came to light when the city’s executive mayor, Cllr Sibusiso Mathonsi, addressed the White-Hazy communities last week. He warned against illegal water connections, saying that it hampered the smooth supply of running water.
He told community members that after thorough research into the city’s water woes, it was discovered that the main pipelines supplying water to the reservoirs were tampered with. They were damaged to such an extent that they could no longer pump water to the reservoirs.
