Local beauty aims high

According to her, the function of a Miss South Africa is to empower, uplift and tackle challenges facing our society and that really resonates with her call.

MBOMBELA – A 23-year-old local  beauty who made it to the top 12 finalists for the upcoming Miss South Africa, aims to fly the flag of the province high.
The sky is the limit for the pretty and future economics graduate Busi Mahlangu from Kwa-Mhlanga in Kwa-Ndebele. She says she has worked hard throughout the duration of the pageant to get the title.

She summed up her aspirations in the title as follows: “As a devoted Economics student, my research tells me that although women dominate the overall population of South Africa, there’s a relatively small percentage of women that actually partake in the economically wellbeing of our country.

“I would like to be an agent of change in the lack of participation of women in the economy. I would like to ignite the zeal amongst women, to find their call in society, give back within that call and leave a generational footprint, as that would have ripple effects on the status of our country, especially in the medium of women participation in South Africa,” say Busi who is a third year student at the University of South Africa (UNISA) where she is studying towards her Bachelor’s Degree in Economics.

According to her, the function of a Miss South Africa is to empower, uplift and tackle challenges facing our society and that really resonates with her call.

“This journey has been one of self-discovery. I’ve grown exponentially and have learnt life lessons that I will forever cherish,” she said.

She also appreciates the selfless work, inspirations and commitment done of her mentor, who was 2005’s Miss South Africa Thuli Sithole. “I have learnt so much from her, including finding my essence which really helped me realize my purpose,” emphasised Busi.

The Miss South Africa pageant will be held on March 29 at the Sun City Super Bowl. Learn more about Busi Mahlangu and the rest of the finalists on the official Miss South Africa Facebook Twitter and Instagram pages.
