Beware of scams – warns OMO

Unilever will never request consumers to deposit money after winning a competition.

The management of Unilever’s Omo brand warns the public to be on the alert about an ongoing scam which lure customers to deposit large amount of money because they had apparently won a competition.

“Our attention has been drawn to a fraudulent scam whereby consumers receive an sms message informing them that they have been awarded large sums of money in a promotion by Unilever’s OMO brand,” reads a media release from the company.

“Unilever will never request consumers to deposit money after winning a competition,”
“In case of any sms contest run by Unilever, the company will also not require a winner to send banking details via sms. All winners will be contacted by Unilever representatives individually,” continued the statement.

“If requested, we recommend that you do not disclose personal or financial details to anyone you do not know,”it reads.

Unilever brands run sms competitions from time to time but they are fully branded and recognizable as such.

Unilever is a manufacturer of brands like Sunlight, Skip, Omo, Knorr and Robertson spices.
In case of suspicions , contact the company’s consumer care line on 0800204 841 or the police.
