MTPA hands over brand new vehicles to nature reserves

This was done as a result of the process of procuring new vehicles for purposes of servicing the nature reserves which was initiated last year.

MBOMBELA – On Tuesday morning the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency handed over 10 vehicles to various nature reserves.

This was done as a result of the process of procuring new vehicles for purposes of servicing the nature reserves which was initiated last year.

According to Ms Kholofelo Nkambule,senior manager: communications and public relations the agency has a total of 65 vehicles including trucks in the asset register and 22 of those have been earmarked for disposal.

“As the board approved the procurement of 22 vehicles through the transversal contract as approved by the national treasury,the handover ceremony sees the first phase of the 10 vehicles handed over to the ten nature reserves and MTPA Head Office,” she said.

Nkambule added that the next phase will see the additional 12 vehicles which will also assist in anti- Rhino poaching programmes delivered to the remainder of the other nature reserves.

Handing over the Toyata Hi-Lux’s to the reserves’ the agency’s acting CEO, Mr Sam Maluleke said the agency was dedicated to ensuring the that the nature reserves’ logistics run smoothly hence the fleet handover.

A budget of R6,942 million was approved for purchasing the new fleet and the first batch of vehicles was allocated to the following Nature Reserves:

Mkhombo Nature Reserve;
Mdala Nature Reserve;
Mabusa Nature Reserve;
Manyeleti Nature Reserve;
Ohrigstad Dam;
Mthethomusha Nature Reserve;
Songimvelo Nature Reserve;
Loskopdam Nature Reserve;
Andover Nature Reserve;
Byde River Canyon Nature Reserve; and
Head Office
