Scholar transport debacle rectified

MBOMBELA – Learning and teaching at Cyril Clark Secondary School at Mataffin is back to normal after the Department of public works, roads and transport added an extra bus to collect learners from Msholozi and Phumlani village.

This is after The move comes after learners at the school boycotted classes demanding additional busses since the number of learners in the school has increased.

According to the department, the addition brings the total number of busses to four.

“In a bid to ensure that learners are ferried safely and on time to school, the Department has been working around the clock to monitor scholar transport system in the area in order to address the shortages,” said Ms Magdeline Matentshi,assistant manager: media liaison and monitoring unit.

She added that to date, there are 347 learners who reside at Msholozi and Phumlani who are using scholar transport this year.
“The department is responsible for the management of scholar transport in the province.

In this academic year, scholar transport caters for more than 63 000 learners,” Matentshi added.

The number of learners benefiting from scholar transport in the province have been broken down as follows;

The department has further urged the parents of learners to report any changes of residence or relocation to other areas especially if learners qualify for a scholar transport, to respective school authorities.
