Learners have nothing to fear

Seeing that many had dropped out of school because of corporal punishment, this government abolished this practice in all public schools.

MADADENI – The ANC chief whip in the provincial legislature, Mr Musa Johan Mkhatshwa told learners that the abolishment of corporal punishment is not a licence to disrupt classes and disrespect teachers.

He was here as part of a back-toschool campaign spearheaded by the ANC in the province.

“The democratic dispensation under the leadership of the ANC, has made it easy for you to access education.

And seeing that many had dropped out of school because of corporal punishment, this government abolished this practice in all public schools.

But, now, we receive disturbing reports about learners disrupting classes and even
threatening their teachers.

I want to plead with you to refrain from doing this, because you are destroying your own future,” he said.

Mkhatshwa also warned the learners about the dangers of using drugs and alcohol.

“When I look at you, I see a generation who knows what they want to do with their
lives. It is crystal clear that you have a vision and a mission.

You are only here to learn in order to better your lives and change your family setup. It is only education that can make your parents proud of you.

So, stay away from drugs and alcohol, because they damage the mind.
