Party takes celebration to the people

"We want to put more time, resources and skills in these local municipalities. We want to consolidate our power in these so-called small towns such as Secunda, Evander, Standerton and areas within the Thembisile Hani and JS Moroka local municipalities".

SECUNDA – Just weeks after the ANC hosted their annual January 8 Statement in Cape Town, this province will host their own January 8 Statement to accommodate those that did not make it to Cape Town.

According to the party’s provincial secretary, Mr Lucky Ndinisa, these festivities will form part of the ANC’s official launch of the 2016 local government elections campaign.

All these will take place at the Embalenhle Stadium on Saturday.
Ndinisa said this event would be attended by the National Executive Committee members and Provincial Executive Members and will be addressed by the current party chairperson, Mr David Mabuza.

He said this celebration would also focus on the Freedom Charter, which marks 60 years since it was adopted.

“We are going directly to the people, because we are not celebrities but mere servants of the people. This is about us serving our people,” said Ndinisa.

“We are going to use this celebration to officially launch our 2016 local government elections campaign. We do not want to delay any further, we want to start now,” he added.

He defended the ANC’s decision for taking such an important celebration to a small town such as Secunda, saying that the ANC is for everyone and therefore is mandated to go to every town, big or small.

“We want to put more time, resources and skills in these local municipalities. We want to consolidate our power in these so-called small towns such as Secunda, Evander, Standerton and areas within the Thembisile Hani and JS Moroka local municipalities,” continued on Ndinisa.

Govan Mbeki Local Municipality is one of the four big municipalities in the province, after Mbombela, Emalahleni and Steve Tshwete.
