Premier surprises beauty queen with new house

She and her mother were amazed to find that the second house she had to help hand over, was actually theirs.

TEKWANE SOUTH – She believed it was just a normal day performing her Miss Mpumalanga duties, but little did she know that her family’s life was about to change.

On Tuesday morning beauty queen, Natasha Dos Santos, accompanied premier Mr David Mabuza to hand over a fully furnished house to a family of 11 at Halfway Village in KaBokweni.

The family’s only breadwinner and mother of seven, Ms Joanah Motha, who shared a two-room house with her children and three grandchildren, expressed her gratitude when Mabuza handed her the keys to her brand-new house, thanks to the DD Mabuza Foundation.

She said that living in a small house previously was difficult since there was no privacy. She was delighted about the change the gesture would bring.

Dos Santos assisted Mabuza in handing over the house.

She and her mother were amazed to find that the second house she had to help hand over, was actually theirs.

Tears of joy, accompanied by ululation, hailed Mabuza’s announcement.

He stated that it was both families’ freedom day.

“When you move into your houses today, you will enter into freedom. We could say today was April 1994 for you.”

Mabuza, who facilitated the building of the houses said, “We are striving to improve the lives of the people.”

Handing over the house to Dos Santos, who previously shared a one-room house with her mother and siblings, Mabuza added that it was not right that an ambassador of the province did not have a decent place to live in when her reign ended.

He applauded two companies, Deep Space Construction and Nemotcon Holdings, who heeded his call and came on board to ensure that the houses were built.

“This is just our humble custom of ploughing back into the community,” said Mr Farhad Nanabay of Deep Space.
