Motorists warned of road closures on the N4

To enable the drilling contractor to prepare the area for blasting, the eastbound slow lane adjacent to the blasting area might also be closed from around 09:00 to 15:00 daily, as-and-when required as an additional safety measure to the travelling public.

MIDDELBURG – Trans African Concessions (TRAC) has notified all relevant parties of road closures on the N4 at Rondebosch Dam, Middelburg, for the purpose of drilling and blasting operations.

These operations form part of the road construction project of the N4-4 KM20,6 – KM38.0, also known as Section 4C, which requires bulk blasting to remove the rock to construct the new East bound carriageway.

Road closures will take place on the following dates:

Wednesday  January 14
Saturday January 17
Tuesday January 20
Thursday January  22
Tuesday January 27

The estimated time of the above mentioned blasts will be at 2pm and although the nature of such an assignment makes the duration of the closures unpredictable, TRAC will ensure that the road closure period is as short as possible to prevent unnecessary traffic delays.

“We therefore advise road users to use alternative routes at closure times on the scheduled days to prevent unnecessary delays. However, due to the poor state of the R104, TRAC cannot advise users to use this as alternative road,”says TRAC’S Solange Soares-Nicholson.

To enable the drilling contractor to prepare the area for blasting, the eastbound slow lane adjacent to the blasting area might also be closed from around 09:00 to 15:00 daily, as-and-when required as an additional safety measure to the travelling public.

“Proper road signs will be in place to warn motorists. We request road users to adhere to speed limits and drive with caution,” Soares-Nicholson adds.
