Young mother allegedly murders her infant

The woman allegedly claim to had opted to end the life of her infant because she was struggling to maintain her other two-year-old child.

ELUKWATINI – A 20-year-old woman accused of killing her three-week-old baby boy after she allegedly couldn’t raise him due to poverty, appeared in court on New Year’s Eve.

The woman was arrested by local police after her mother called the police following her fruitless attempts of questioning the whereabouts of the infant after the suspect returned home without him. She then suspected that her daughter might had done something wrong to her grandchild.

It is alleged that the suspect innitially lied saying she left the child at a friend’s house and later changed her susbject to claim to have left the child with her boyfriend.

“Her utterances steered well clear and were a far cry from the truth, the scales fell off from the mother’s eyes when her boyfriend came looking for the child and that is when the police were roped into the matter,” said Const Solly Mbokane, the local police spokesperson.

Mbokane added that the suspect then admit to had strangled the infant a day before, wrapped in a blanket and and hide it behind a cupboard.

“She says she opted to end the life of her infant because she did not need a second child as she was struggling to maintain her other two-year-old child,” he adds.

The police are still investigating the matter.
