Local learner shines

"I'm so proud that today I have managed to put Barberton circuit on the map".

BARBERTON – “It doesn’t matter where you come from. The only important lesson I have learnt in life, is that you must never give up hope and stop dreaming because of your current or present situation”.

These are the words of Bongane Mamba, of Kamhola Secondary School who is one of the top five students in the province who managed to obtained a distinction in Mathematics.

During the officially announcement of the matric results, on Tuesday, by the MEC for education, Ms Reginah Mhaule, Mamba surprised many with his performance since this school is known for all the wrong reasons.

This school made headlines last year after a shocking video where a learner was stubbed while others just stood there and watched as if nothing was happening.

Speaking exclusively to Mpumalanga News, Mamba said that it was not easy but because he knew what he wanted in life, so he just focused on his studies and worked an extra mile just to get these results.

“What really helped me a lot is that I used to attend morning classes and afternoon classes everyday. In most cases I was the one teaching the group and this helped me a lot in terms of gaining more knowledge. I’m so proud that today I have managed to put Barberton circuit in the map,” he said.

“I am going to Wits University to study Mechanical engineering or Chartered Accounting,” he concluded.
