Dewani, who was accused of orchestrating his wife’s murder in November 2010, was discharged following the dismissal of the case by Judge Traverso. According to the Judge, the testimony provided by the prosecution’s main witness Zola Tongo was “highly debatable”and “riddled with contradictions”.
The dismissal of the case has left South Africans fuming, and many took to social media to air their opinions on the matter:
The State must appeal the #ShrienDewani ruling. Anni deserves justice!

#ShrienDewani case thrown out?! This is madness. Courts didn't want any more publicity in #SouthAfrica ? Why extradite? Cost to taxpayer?

If #ShrienDewani is thrown out, I'd hate to think about the message it sends to the world about South Africa.

Two young women lost their lives and it seems the south African court system is in favour of these men.#oscarpistorius #ShrienDewani

Quite simply, the State did not do enough to prove a case against #ShrienDewani. No evidence, no conviction. That's the law people.

From the BBC panorama doc on #ShrienDewani it was clear there were serious issues with lack of evidence. It should never have gone to trial!
