Trans African Concessions (TRAC) recently joined hands with Mpumalanga’s top-performing school, Hoërskool Nelspruit, to repair the access road to the Department of Education’s (DOE) Ehlanzeni district offices in KaNyamazane.

The road to the premises was in a poor state, thus making it dangerous to all motorists who had to make use of it. Due to TRAC’s remarkable reputation in road maintenance, the school’s headmaster, Dr Louis Swanepoel, approached the concessionaire for assistance.
Being committed to its social responsibilities and the welfare of all the communities along the 570km toll route, TRAC agreed to repair the potholes. Work started last week and is scheduled to be completed by this week.

A celebration ceremony was held on 25 November at the Ehlanzeni district offices. It was attended by education department officials, TRAC representatives as well as management and staff members of Hoërskool Nelspruit. Dr Swanepoel pointed out the significance and importance of the project, while John Lushaba, the district director of Ehlanzeni Education, highlighted the positive impact such initiatives had in terms of developing and improving the education sector in the province.

TRAC’s training and development manager and Corporate Social Initiatives (CSI) representative, David Mashaya, noted how humbled TRAC was when approached to support such a worthy cause. He added that it tied in perfectly with the company’s vision and philosophy in terms of social responsibility. “TRAC is committed to social investment along our route and it is for this reason that we embrace this project.”

“Quality education is critical in the social and economic development of Mpumalanga, something which TRAC as South Africa’s only cross-border concessionaire, assists with,” Mashaya explained “Because the company cares about the people responsible to transfer the skills and manage the process, we will strive to continue to touch people’s lives in a meaningful way.”
