Long-term stop/go comes to an end

Ancillary works, side drains and finishing, will be done until 12 December 2014, with shoulder or isolate closures to be completed as required.

MBOMBELA – Trans African Concessions (TRAC) is happy to announce that the permanent, long-term Stop/Go on the N4 Toll Route between Mbombela (Nelspruit) and Malalane in Mpumalanga has come to an end.

These road works were essential to improve safety and upgrade our existing infrastructure on the N4 Toll Route – two aspects that as concessionaire of the road TRAC is responsible for.

The permanent Stop/Go was erected in February 2013 with road works comprising amongst others, the construction of an additional 8km of overtaking lanes and the reconstruction of the top 300mm layer of the road.

Given the topography of this section, radical measures had to be taken to allow for this to be done effectively.
From next week a shorter, temporary Stop/Go will come into effect on the Crocodile River Bridge to allow for rehabilitation work on the bridge’s joints.

This will be followed by short daytime Stop/Go’s to allow for the final overlay,
which is expected to be completed by 21 November, 2014.

Ancillary works, side drains and finishing, will be done until 12 December 2014, with shoulder or isolate closures to be completed as required.

All road works will stop for the Festive Season break between 12 December 2014 and 5 January 2015, with the entire project expected to be concluded by the end of January 2015.

TRAC is conscious of the challenges and frustration that the long-term Stop/Go caused road users and we thank them for their patience and understanding during this period.

We wish all our road users well on their travels and are confident they will have a better driving experience through the Crocodile Gorge following its reconstruction and upgrade.
