MEC condemns arson of municipal building

The MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs in Mpumalanga, Ms Refilwe Mtshweni has condemned the burning down of municipal offices in Thaba Chweu Local Municipality, in Lydenburg on Friday.

MBOMBELA – The MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs in Mpumalanga, Ms Refilwe Mtshweni has condemned the burning down of municipal offices in Thaba Chweu Local Municipality, in Lydenburg on Friday.
Mtshweni has, in a statement, described the act as barbaric.
“We condemn this barbaric act in the strongest possible terms. We hope that security agencies will track down those who committed the crime.

We also call upon anyone with information to contact the police in order to bring the perpetrators to book,” she said.
A call was made to those with an agenda to destroy the municipal offices to channel their energy towards supporting Thaba Chweu Municipality.

“I urge that we do this in an effort to build a responsive, caring and accountable local government in line with the National Development Plan (NDP).

Thaba Chweu Local Municipality is one of the 18 local municipalities in Mpumalanga. Efforts are underway to rebuild the offices,” she ended.
