Mec wishes class of 2014 well

She added that besides the smooth kick-off of the exams, minor challenges were experienced in Pienaar where there was a service delivery protest this morning.

BELFAST – Confidence, enthusiasm best described the 2014 matric learners of Khayalami Secondary High in Emakhazeni Local Municipality where education MEC, Reginah Mhaule, the executive mayor, Cllr Hamza Ngwenya witnessed the writing of the English Home language and English First Additional language examination papers on Monday.

”I am very happy and believe what I see here represents what’s happening in all the schools in our province. The learners are ready and have shown lots of excitement,” said Mhaule.

She added that besides the smooth kick-off of the exams, minor challenges were experienced in Pienaar where there was a service delivery protest this morning, however, the department was able to take question papers there.

The other challenge was at Pulani Secondary in Bushbuckridge whose roof top was ripped off by a storm.

”As a department, we tried to send contractors on site who were apparently chased away by parents who demand a new school to be built in the area.
Mhaule called on the parents and community to support learners during this time.

”Issues of service delivery shouldn’t stop learners from writing exams. To the community of Pulani, we will talk about their need for a new school. For now we call on parents to think for the future of learners and support hem matrics in wri ting their exams,” she said.

”Generally we are ready and confident our learners will make us proud,” she emphasized.
