SECUNDA- A fire outbreak nearly destroys Sasol’s Synthol plant in Secunda, if it was not for the quick response from the emergency unit.
The incidence took place about 22:00 on Tuesday and was contained to a relatively small part of the plant which was successfully put down by emergency personnels.
No fatalities or significant injuries were reported.
All 23 employees were treated at the local medical station, mostly for smoke inhalation. No-one was hospitalised.
“The cause of the incident will be investigated and Sasol will fully cooperate with the relevant authorities in this regard,” remarked Sasol’s spokesperson Elton Fortuin.
