With 3 472 followers on Twitter, and counting, and just above 1 500 friends on Facebook, Mxolisi Nzimande is evidently a social media guru and seems to be enjoying it all through.

“I love social media, it has opened doors for me and I enjoy all the time I spend on it,” said Nzimande. This social media pundit has made a huge name for himself in the past years using social media. From blogging for Mpumalanga News to keeping up on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, it seems to have really paid off for him.

“It all began four years ago when I started selling T-Shirts for DJ Sbu and I used social media to my benefit. Ligwalagwala FM then approached me for a Social Media Corner slot on the Afternoon Drive Show, which I did for almost three years.”

Nzimande holds strong views about social media platforms and steady warns people to use them wisely. He adds that such can kill you as much as it can make you.

“I feel social media is a very big platform, not yet used to its fullest capacity, if it ever will be, but it’s really huge and has the potential to tarnish one’s reputation just as much as it can build it up.

We have seen people losing their jobs over comments or posts they have made on media platforms respectively. One needs to try and make sure their house is clean all the time,” he added as he browsed through his mobile Twitter account.

Nzimande went on to express his views about the social life in the province, and says he feels there is not much going on for Lowveld party animals.

“We do not have enough facilities to cater for the nighttime people in the province, hence they resort to partying in places like Johannesburg, because they feel that’s where they are catered for,” he added.

He also weighed in on the celebrity status of socialites in the province. Nzimande feels Mpumalanga has socialites with great possibilities, but they are not given the platform to shine to their fullest.

“Our artists are not given the stage to develop themselves. They have to come back from Johannesburg in order to get recognition from our communities.

The government would be the number one culprit in this regard as some departments would rather spend a lot of money calling artists from outside the province instead of endorsing their own.

I feel they should come up with a plan that would include a local socialite in every event hosted, that would help ratify and nature our local talent,” said Nzimande.

Apart from being the social media specialist he has a day job.
“I am a Chief Communication Officer for Ehlanzeni TVET College, I organize events, I also do a lot of Public Relations and I would like to also think of myself as a promoter,” he added.

With so much going on in his life, Mxolisi insists he still finds time for himself, although he hasn’t spent time with his family for over four months now.

“It gets really busy, but I still find the time to do the little things I love doing. Things such as praying, reading, and just taking time to myself away from everything else.”

Here are ten things you did not know about Mxolisi.

1. He has a calling to become a pastor.

“I have always known and shied away from it, but I think it’s time I heed to the calling. I’m 31-years-old and I realize I’m not getting any younger. Soon I will be known as Pastor Mxolisi,” he said as he tittered.

2. He loves good food.

“Thank God I can cook. My preferred dish would be pasta and … let’s just say my favorite dish is mash and oxtail.”

3. He loves reading.

“It takes me a maximum of three days to finish a book. I am currently reading The Richest Man in Babylon by George Clason.”

4. He is very fond of fashion.

“If you look good, you are most likely to be taken seriously. The statement one makes in good and clean clothes cannot be overemphasized.”

5. He keeps up with gadgets.

“The new iPhone is good, but I think they made a bit of a blunder by releasing two models almost at the same time. I try and keep up with the latest trends in the gadget world.”

6. He is an extrovert who loves his own space.

“What I do require for me to be out and surrounded by people all the time. I then tend to cherish the time I spend on my own, just for reflection and more understanding of myself.”

7. He thinks networking is boss.

“I love sharing expertise and practices across industries.”

8. He finds travelling refreshing.

“I love Sabie, I think it has the most beautiful lodges and waterfalls. Pilgrim’s Rest is a great place for holiday as well.”

9. He keeps up with technology the best way possible.

“I follow technology and I should really say that I love the transition seen by radio of late. It is wonderful to see radio personalities challenged to keep up their content because they are dealing with an informed audience.”

10. He is a self-proclaimed flexible and single man.

“I love mingling with people across cultures and boundaries, it keeps me informed, the more I know, the less I judge people. It is true that I am still single, I am a father though and I am still awaiting my partner from the Lord.
