Girls team in soccer final

"I would also like to encourage our local municipality to look after public soccer fields, so they can benefit our children".

KANYAMAZANE – The locally based ZB Kunene High School will represent the province in the National Schools League final scheduled for December in Pretoria.

This after the school’s girls team was crowned Provincial Schools League soccer champions during the provincial final held at Ermelo last week Saturday.

Speaking to Mpumalanga News following their success, the school’s sport organiser and team manger, Thami Dludlu said they would prepare well in time for the national games and planned to make the province proud.

“We are not going there just to add numbers but to compete just like we were doing from the beginning of our campaign until the provincial finals.
“We are going there not only to represent our school, but the entire province and we will do everything in our power to excel,” said Dludlu.

He attributed their success to the support they have been receiving from the school’s management, SGB, parents and the learners.

“We owe our success to them, because they have been behind this team from the beginning. We also want to thank the departments of education and sport for their support and also our neighbours, Buhlebuyeta Primary School for allowing the team to train at their sport fields because we don’t have our own,” he went on.

He also appealed for support from local businesses and individuals to assist the children with soccer boots and any other sporting equipment.

Dludlu said the parents of the learners have been very supportive and would at times spend their last money just to ensure that their girls have proper soccer attires and sometimes provide money for transport.

“I would also like to encourage our local municipality to look after public soccer fields, so they can benefit our children,” he said.

The education department congratulated the school and wished them all the best for the final.
