Kholwane makes a difference to the lives of an impoverished family

MATSULU – MEC for finance, economic development and tourism, Mr Eric Sikhumbuzo Kholwane, gave an impoverished family a tremendous gift when he handed over a fully furnished house donated by his trust, Izwelethu Trust Fund, on Heritage Day.

The Mthunywa family of four, used to live and share a one-room shack, subjecting them to survive under restricting conditions for years without possible help.

“As a community, we can’t sit back and relax while there are still many of our people living in abject poverty. We encourage our people to adopt the caring and sharing mentality for one another.

That will see us standing up to meet the challenges faced by our fellow and struggling South Africans,” said Kholwane who was not only celebrating Heritage Day, but his birthday too.

He said the Izwelethu Trust Fund was solely formed with the purpose of helping the poor people in the community.

“We have had challenges in the past with our children passing their matric, but couldn’t proceed to institutions of higher learning. Some could but they still had challenges regarding what to live off when they were at those places and the trust would address such issues,” said Kholwane.

Ms Zodwa Mthunywa and her kids, who could not believe their eyes, thanked Kholwane and the trust for the generous intervention. Mthunywa said,

“I don’t know how to explain how I feel. It’s more than a dream come true for us. We could not do this on our own. Thanks for giving us shelter and at the same time, restoring our dignity as human beings.”

The department, assisted by local business people, has identified four other underprivileged households living in awful conditions during Mandela Month celebrations and has committed itself to helping them.
