The SAPS celebrated Heritage Month by warmly welcoming their new commander and embracing her leadership. Brig Velisiwe Mdaka, a Block C resident, was appointed on September 1.

The 46-year-old seems to have hit the ground running and is determined to get her house in order. “I am willing and ready to work hand in hand with the community of Nkomazi and all other stakeholders.

My office is always open for anyone who needs assistance concerning crime, I should also indicate that it is not limited to just that,” said Mdaka.

This mother of one is married to Mr Skhumbuzo Mdaka, a teacher at KaMaqhekeza Primary School. Mdaka seems to be a woman of many titles in her community as she also serves as a pastor in a well-known local church in KaMaqhekeza.

Having joined the service in January 6, 1988 at the age of 17, she has served the community with integrity over the years. “I am grateful for yet another chance to be able to serve my community and I know it will once again be a success with the help of the Almighty God.”
