Filling of top posts strengthens the SAPS

Some of the posts were vacant for 16 to 18 months.

MBOMBELA- Top posts in the SAPS sector have been filled to ensure that police fight tooth and
nail against the scourge of crime in the province.

“It is a relief to have these vacancies filled, some of which had been vacant for 16 to 18 months, and this means we will put double effort into reducing crime, and complaints will now be referred to the relevant offices at the stations,” said provincial commissioner, Lt Gen Thulani Ntobela.

He mentioned that while the posts were vacant, there was no accountability, as they were filled by acting
officials. “At least we now have station commanders, which will add value to their police stations, as some of them had been acting in those posts and therefore bring with them a lot of experience,”he said.

One of the promoted officials, Brig Lizzy Mntungwa, of Embalenhle, had been promoted to cluster
commander in Tonga, near Malalane. This comes after her 27 years of service in the police sector. She said being a disciplined member and respecting her work, had paved her way to success. “It is my wish to work hand in hand with the community of Tonga, without them we won’t have any policing,” she said.

Tonga’s acting station and cluster commander Brig Velisiwe Mdaka had finally been appointed as the station commander of the same police station. She said being a hard worker and a dedicated member who understood that her work was a calling had seen her through thick and thin in the police sector. She also expressed words of gratitude to the Nkomazi Local Municipality and traditional leaders who assisted police in maintaining peace
during the recent service delivery protests in Mzinti.
