The Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training Mr Mduduzi Manana pledges solidarity with the cast of Generations whose contracts were terminated after labour related impasse between different parties within the sector.

The majority of the cast are graduates who pursued careers in the Creative and Performing Arts field in various post school institutions in the country.

“These developments paint a bleak future for students who are pursuing their post-school studies in the Creative and Performing Arts industry across universities, colleges and drama schools in the country.

The disputes between the different parties poses a threat to future graduates who will find it difficult to pursue careers in the field of Creative and Performing Arts because of the perceived lack of secure income and long term contracts offered to cast members by production houses,” said Manana.

According to Manana, it would therefore be appropriate for the parties in dispute to find amicable ways of handling the impasse and ensuring that South Africans who have grown to be attached to the prime time show are not deprived the opportunity to enjoy the acting talent portrayed by our graduates.

“We hope that the impasse will not be allowed to continue unabated without bringing the parties in dispute together to find a solution.”
