Woman arrested for child neglect

Tonga- A 35-year-old woman from KaMhlushwa has been arrested by the Tonga Family violence, child abuse and sexual offences unit (FCS) for locking her twins inside her house without food while she went to work.

Tonga- A 35-year-old woman from KaMhlushwa has been arrested by the Tonga Family violence, child abuse and sexual offences unit (FCS) for locking her twins inside her house without food while she went to work.

According to Tonga Police, Constable Mbokazi was off duty at Kamhlushwa visiting a resting place, when he was approached by a member of the community who told him about the story.

“Constable Mbokazi reported the matter to the member of FCS unit who was on standby and they responded to the complaint swiftly and they heard the children crying inside the house which was locked.

They broke the door and rescued the twins, a boy and a girl who are one and half year old without any care and food.,” said Lieutenant Mzwandile Nyambi of Tonga Police.

The children were taken to the victim support centre at Tonga and a case of child neglect was opened, the mother was then arrested.

“She has appeared before the Nkomazi Magistrate court today and the case has been postponed to the August 26 for bail application. The children are now under the care of social workers,” he added.
