MZINTI – The 66-year-old Philemon Chauke will finally get a taste of what it feels like to sleep under a solid roof and
on a comfortable bed.

This after the community of Mzinti identified and built a house for him in commemoration of Mandela Month.

The community, which has pledged to make every month a Mandela Month in the name of giving, gathered all the help they needed and took the initiative of making sure that Chauke gets a house.
“We are doing this to demonstrate the power of unity.

This is only the beginning of many more initiatives like this to come,” said one of the project coordinators, Gatsha Ngubane.
Chauke could barely hide his excitement when he received the key to his brand-new house.

“I have had several break-ins in the little shack I called my shelter. It pained my heart all the time to think there was nothing I could do about it, but the Lord has heard my prayers and sent his human angels to help me out of my misery,” said the tearful beneficiary.

The group is now targeting a child-headed family in the area to help them get a decent house and they have pledged not to rest until such is accomplished.

“We have tried to get them an RDP house and we failed because of other reasons, but we will not fail to build them a decent shelter with the help of the whole community and supporting stakeholders such as Fact Nkomazi Rocks,”
added Gatsha.

The project is said to be open for more sponsorship in order to help more destitute Nkomazi residents.
“The aim is to reach the whole of Nkomazi, but we cannot do that yet because of limited resources.

We therefor welcome any form of sponsorship, from labour all the way through to money, so we can help elevate Nkomazi together Indeed to us every month is Mandela month,” he concluded.
