Couple arrested for stolen property

A 42- year-old welder and his 36-year-old wife were arrested after being found in possession of suspected stolen property worth over R70 000-00.

ELUKWATININI – A 42- year-old welder and his 36-year-old wife were arrested after being found in possession of suspected stolen property worth over R70 000-00.

Their arrest comes after police were informed about the couple’s storage rooms where questionable properties were kept. The police then swiftly acted on the information.

This took place on Friday afternoon at about 14:00. The police traced on the welder’s wife Ms Christine Simango, who took them to their place of residence where stolen property including generators, welding machines, a grass cutter, microwave oven, vacuum cleaner, compressor, television sets, personal computers, a bold cutter, public address system (speaker) and chairs were found.

“She denied any knowledge of the items, only saying they were her husband’s items,” said W/O Solly Mbokane.
“Some clients who had reported cases of stolen items have already identified their properties from the many recovered and will receive them back after a routine procedure,” he added.

The welder, Mr Lewis Marumba, handed himself to the police on Saturday.

The couple appeared in the Eesterhoek Magistrate’s Court on Monday facing 27 charges of possession of suspected stolen property.

Court outcome were not known at the time of going to print. Elukwatinis acting station commander, Major Elias Mavuso appreciated the arresting members for the bust and for ensuring a crime free society.

“We will not sleep a wink until all offenders learn that if you are not prepared to do the time, do not do the crime; he said.
