To ensure that the province continues to be on the right path when it comes to improving matric results, the department of education has organised winter school classes, which commenced on June 30 and ended on July 10.
The department of education has indicated that they are satisfied in the manner in which the winter classes have progressed.
Mpumalanga Mirror learnt that the classes focused on very important subjects such as physical science, mathematics, mathematical literacy, life science, accounting, business studies, geography, history and English additional language.
The MEC of this department, Ms Reginah Mhaule urged learners not to take the classes for granted. “We would like to encourage the learners attending winter school classes to take them seriously and pay attention to every lesson because this opportunity can improve their performance.“
The class of 2013 put the province on the map after they improved the matric pass rate from 70 per cent in 2012 to 77,6 in 2013 and 25 schools that achieved a 100 per cent pass rate were also recognised and teachers who had a high pass rate in their subjects were also awarded trophies for their efforts.
