EMBALENHLE – A 62-year-old man briefly appeared before the Evander Magistrate’s Court near Secunda in connection with an alleged rape of a 13-year-old minor on several occasions around April.
Police information allege that the girl was selling vegetables around Embalenhle when she went to the suspect’s house to sell, she supposedly knocked at the door and was welcomed inside.
“The suspect then told the girl that he was going to fetch money to buy, however he locked the door and forcefully raped her.
He then ordered her not to tell anyone or he will kill her,”said Brig Selvy Mohlala the provincial police spokesman.
In the second occassion the suspect met the victim on the road and forcefully dragged her to his house and allegedly raped her again.
“It emerged that the victim’s mother noticed a strange discharge from her while she was applying an ointment for treating mosquito bites. She took the victim to the local clinic for medical examination and the rape was confirmed,”continued Mohlala.
A case docket was then opened and the suspect was arrested July 5. He was remanded in custody . The case had been postponed to July 16, pending bail application.
