The community of this area and surrounding areas are still shocked after two Mozambican nationals were killed when their shack caught fire last week.

NGODINI – The community of this area and surrounding areas are still shocked after two Mozambican nationals were killed when their shack caught fire last week.

The bodies and belongings were burnt beyond recognitions in their shack.
It is alleged that the friends Chicco and Lucky Khoza apparently left a two plate stove on, while they dosed off to sleep after enjoying drinks with friends.

The two apparently left the local tavern with an intention of cooking before they could sleep, indeed they got inside Lucky’ s shack, locked the door and start cooking, while cooking nature take its toll and they both fell asleep leaving the two plate stove on.

It is suspected that a curtain might had caught the fire first which then immediately spreads to the house in the middle of the night.

“The flames were so high and we couldn’t do much to help them,” explained Nkosinathi Thobela who is a brother to one of the victims. He related how he heard owls making their sounds on top of his roof , which he knew that is a sign of bad luck as per his culture.

“It was not even 30 minutes later when I started hearing cries and saw a blaze in my window,” he narrated. “I ran out and saw my brothers shack and the whole yard in fire, people were holding buckets of water tossing at the flame,” he said while trying to hold back tears.

Police and undertakers were called to the scene. One of the remains was found near the doorway and the other still on top of the remains of their bed. There was nothing left of what used to be the deceased home.

According to Thobela both families arrived abd the deceased were buried at TV Trust. Speaking to community members they all seem to be devasted by the news and especially the way they died.

Kabokweni police spokesperson W/O Mary Fuwela confirmed the incidence although she could not tell if the stove was prima stove or a hot plate.

She said it was the first incident of its kind since she joined the station in the past seven years. She also warns members of the community never to leaver electric stoves or candles unattanded to or near beds and curtains and this migt cause fire.

The pair are said to have grown-up- together, worked together as electricians and builders and they eventually died together and will be put to rest together. “May their Soul Rest in Peace and the Almighty comforts all friends and family members,” – Mpumalanga News.
