MEC Vusi Shongwe sends condolences

MEC Vusi Shongwe had sends condolences to thefamily of six victims who died when a Nissan sedan collided with an Articulated truck last week.

Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe expressed words of condolences to the families of six people who tragically vehicle collision on R546 Road between Evander and Standerton.

The crash involved a Nissan sedan which was travelling towards Standerton and an Articulated truck travelling in the opposite direction and claimed six lives on the spot.

One passenger, also from the sedan was rushed to Evander Hospital and later to Witbank Hospital with serious injuries. The truck driver escaped with no injuries.

Shongwe calls on passengers to promote safe driving habits by encouraging drivers not to overtake dangerously and also to observe all traffic regulations.

“Passengers too have a role to ensure that the vehicle they are travelling in is safe and that the driver is also fit.

“When I was a taxi operator, we would experience a situation where passengers force a driver to drive fast. These tragic accidents will continue to steal the lives of innocent people if passengers fail to ensure safety of the vehicles they are travelling in,” concludes Shongwe.
