Word just in from Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport: the R40 is being opened for traffic again. Taxis and busses barricaded the road because some of them alleged that they were not being given the opportunity and space to operate within Mbombela. HOD’s of road and transport and that of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, met with them and agreed to have their demands met.

Traffic is still on a standstill on the R40 between White River and Nelspruit as taxi drivers have blocked the road. Apparently all entrances to the city have been closed. People cannot access nor exit the city.

The R40 has been baricaded all the way from White River to Nelspruit this morning. According to Jaques Meiring of Bossies Community Justice, it is due to the various taxi organisations who are in dispute. We will keep you updated when more information is revealed.
