Young talent gets the time to shine

Autotech foundation assists learners from schools around Kabokweni and Mbonisweni recognise their God-given talents and works towards upliftment in these rural areas

KABOKWENI – The Autotec Foundation has been keeping the children off the streets since 2007. A fund-raising event was held at the local community hall last Thursday.

More than 30 children from schools in KaBokweni and Mbonisweni gathered at the hall with their teachers and parents to showcase their talents in singing and acting.

The kids were awarded with certificates and they all walked away with fantastic gifts.
Ms Nana Stepelberg “Khomotjo” of the SABC 2 soapie, Muvhango, was also there to teach the children communication skills, time management and life skills. She is regarded as a mother figure by these children.

The foundation assists youngsters to recognise their God-given talents and works towards upliftment in these rural areas. South African jails are filled with people who committed crime out of boredom. Foundations such as this one specialise in nurturing the talent of the youth to keep them away from criminal activity.

The theme of the event was: “Colour Your Life,” meaning shape your life in terms of recognising what could be a huge step towards reaching success in your life.

Ms Jeannine Forreira, director of the foundation said, “We are trying our best to recognise the talents of our kids and I urge parents to support their children in whatever decisions they take, but wise decisions though.

“I would like to thank Jane de Jager who was present since the time the foundation was started as she has marshalled all these programmes.”
The foundation is an NGO organisation sponsored by Wimpy, SPAR, Volvo and StayEasy.
