Granny’s wish is finally granted

A dream came true for gogo Nostinah Khoza (104) who finally receives her own new furnished house.

ELANDSHOEK – Communities should look to us to resolve their various problems because this is a government which cares.

These were the words of the chairperson of the Select Committee on Public Participation, Petitions and Members Legislative Proposals, Ms Jeanette Nghondzweni on Saturday when she accompanied the speaker, Ms Thandi Shongwe to deliver a ful1y furnished house to 104-year-old Gogo Nostinah Khoza.

She said, “The plight of various communities lies in our hands. Gogo Khoza’s case is the result of petitioning from my unit because we had identified her problem.

“It was our duty to forward the petitions to the Department of Human settlements for a house, the Department of Social Development for furniture and other utensils, and Mbombela Local Municipality for land.

Asked if communities were aware of their existence, she said,, “Fortunately, through taking the legislature to the people by the speaker’s office, our office has been introduced to communities and they use it.”Issues raised around service delivery vary and many, if not all, can be resolved if the communities fully utilise our office. It is there to serve them.

“We tackle matters of concern with the right offices and persons. If something has delays or hiccups or even when we have positive or negative answers, we keep the communities updated with the developments. The more cases we handle, the better will be the rapport between the communities and the government on service delivery, forthwith,” ended Nghondzweni.

She has appealed to the community to contact her office on Theresa Maisane 013-766-1160.
