Youth hail their dads as kings

While many took their fathers out for dinner as a way of expressing their love for them during this past Father's Day, the youth of Divine Tabernacle honoured and praised the fathers of the church through song.

MSHOLOZI – While many took their fathers out for dinner as a way of expressing their love for them during this past Father’s Day, the youth of Divine Tabernacle honoured and praised the fathers of the church through song.

They were showered with praises by both the youth and the women of the church who even referred to them as “kings” like Sarah in the Bible did to her husband Abraham. “This is a great day for us to celebrate our rulers and kings and we honour them for who they are in our lives and families. If fathers are not there children cannot be guided,” said some of the women.

A nine-year-old girl, Lerato Ratau, left everyone in tears of joy as she sang “Daddy you know how much I love you,” by Ricardo and Friends, a song dedicated to all the fathers of the church.

Walter Sithole (24) who grew up with his stepfather Mr Rodney Ratau, whom he said treated him the same as he did his biological children, said anyone can be a father but it takes a very special and responsible person to be a dad. He publicly thanked Ratau during his testimony for the role he had been playing in his life since 1999.

“He does everything a biological father will do. He is my provider, pillar of strength, gearbox and everything,” he said.

The church founder and leaders were also praised for the role they played in being spiritual fathers and leaders for the congregants.

Studies revealed that the basic traits of being a good father and role model to your own children were being a good disciplinarian, allowing your kids to make some mistakes and being open-minded. Good fathers teach their children to appreciate things, accept their kids are not exactly like them, spend quality time with their children, lead by example, are supportive and loyal, challenge their kids, teach them lessons, protect their children at all costs and show unconditional love
to them.

Meanwhile, a number of events took place around Father’s Day, which incidentally fell a day before the official celebration of Youth Day in and around our region.

Speaking to Mr Musa Mdluli he said, “It is such an honour for me to have been pampered this way by my entire family. it was breakfast in bed, lunch in the terrace and by the end of the day, me not used to being spoiled this way, instead invited them all out for dinner. That’s me and my day.”

Mr Mthokozisi Zungu said he was caught by surprise altogether, “Early in the morning on Sunday my youngest child came to me with presents and I was surprised with what was happening as it wasn’t even Christmas time yet. It was while opening the envelopes that it dawned on me that it was actually Father’s Day. I was happy, to say the least,” he said.
