TEKWANE SOUTH – Following last week’s accident involving a cash-in-transit vehicle and a bus, the bus company, Buscor has taken it upon themselves in ensuring that survivors of the crash receive comprehensive professional clinical counseling.

A professional clinical psychologist, Ms Mirenda Manzini, said it was critically important for the accident survivors, especially the schoolchildren, to undergo such a session.

“This accident was just too horrific for these children and so you can imagine the trauma they are going through right now. It is therefore of paramount importance that they are assisted through this process.

We call this a debriefing session and it will help the situation not to worsen. Such a session will also help provide them with psycho-education so they would know which symptoms to expect.

It is also advisable for them to continue with individual consultations, because they are not affected in the same way,” explained Manzini who spent the entire Sunday at the local community hall with more than 30 children who survived the accident.

Even though they were not entirely at fault, Buscor felt it was important that these kids receive this assistance to come to terms with their trauma.

“We decided to do something to help calm them down because this accident is difficult for them to work through. We have realised that this may have a negative impact on their schooling if nothing is done to help them. We just hope that this session will help them,” said Buscor PRO, Mr Bheki Nkosi.
