ANC holds provincial lekgotla

LEHAWU – The ANC in the province has met for the first time after the gruelling national and provincial elections, to conduct a thorough post-mortem on the results.

Giving a brief overview about some of the deliberations taken at the two-day lekgotla at the Casambo Guest Lodge, Mr Lucky Ndinisa, the party’s secretary had this to say,

“We convened this meeting to say to our members, particularly those deployed in government, that the people of the province have once again given us an overwhelming mandate and all we need to do to thank them, is by making sure that all the issues they raised are attended to expeditiously, particularly those of service delivery.

Our municipalities must fast-track the issue of providing clean running water to our people, electricity, better roads and housing. Much more importantly, we have seen by experience as we interacted with young people, that the lack of employment opportunities is a worrisome fact.

It’s a major issue because many are unemployed and it’s a matter we would need to respond to urgently. In the main, this is what we have said to them and we expect them to run and take our province forward and improve our people’s lives.”

He said, “We are starting to prepare for the local government elections which is why we have called these deployed cadres to say they must respond to the issues raised by our communities by ensuring that they fast-track services.

“We want our people to participate in community meetings and IDPs because they are crucial to development and service delivery,” he said.

He refuted claims of trouble in the party saying, “There is no infighting in the ANC, the only issue is that in a very big organisation you will have a variety of views in respect of a particular matter on the table.

New and non-members don’t know or understand that the culture of the organisation would always cause confusion and robust debate. Where we stand, we are fine, and the party is becoming much stronger and is able to debate issues before taking decisions.”
