Climate change issues to be tackled

The campaign seeks to empower young people with knowledge to protect Africa’s natural resources .

MBOMBELA- Effects of climate change had been seen almost every parts of the Africa and hence a two day training had been scheduled by the African Union (AYU) Green Campaign to lecture people of the province on the causes and effects of climate change , as well as measures that can be taken to save the environment.

“This campaign is going to go in all corners of Mpumalanga province while teaching people, raising awareness, planting trees, cleaning water bodies and empowering people to inspire others and take action,” explained the president of African Youth Union (AYU) Mr Timothy Mugerwa, organisers of the seminar.

He said the campaign will start with trainings and awareness activities in the areas of Msogwaba Nelspruit and as far as Elukwatini later spread in other parts of the province.

He also extends his invitation to schools and other stakeholders to be part of the meeting scheduled to be held at Msogwaba public library and neighbouring schools.
“Later in the month trainings will be extended to Elukwatini. We are also planning to host a provincial training on climate change in Nelspruit around August,” he said.

The AYU Green Campaign is an initiative of the African Youth Union it launched March this year by the president of the African Youth Union after attending the climate reality leadership training offered by former US Vice President and noble laureate Al Gore.

“The campaign seeks to empower young people with knowledge to protect Africa’s natural resources and to sustainably use them. The campaign will bring together young Africans to demand action and real change. The time is now to speak out and spread the truth about climate change so that we empower and inspire others to work toward solutions,” said Mugerwa.

It aims to promote sustainable development and to encourage the investment of green business,
raise awareness on climate change and environmental issues as well as mobilising the youth to take part in keeping and promoting an environmental pollution free Africa.
