Residents expect what they voted for

Bushbuckridge labelled as the capital city of potholes in Mpumalanga

MBOMBELA -This province was making headlines in the country due to poor service delivery protests such as poor water supply and bad conditions of roads in different areas which led the president of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Mr Julius Malema to label Bushbuckridge as the capital city of “potholes ” in Mpumalanga.
Despite that, thousands of citizens put everything aside and exercised their rights in polls.
Mpumalanga Mirror interacted with different people, including the born frees who took part in the firth national general elections. Most of them stated that they cast their votes because they wanted their voice to be heard, which means that the new administration must be up for a challenge since residents’ expectations are very high.
One of the residents, Mr Jabulani Maziya said: “I decided to vote because it’s important to choose our leaders and with my vote, I want to see a change in terms of improving service delivery, especially water supply because it’s a huge problem that needs serious attention.”
Some of the issues that they need the government to address is job creation and fighting corruption, scandals and nepotism.
One of the born frees, Tebo Molemo who was voting for the first time, said that he was over the moon that the day he was waiting for is already here.

“I am so happy I was voting for the first in my life. I’m thankful that I was getting this opportunity to cast my vote because in other countries young people like me don’t get this opportunity. I believe that my vote will make a huge difference in terms of changing lives of other people on issues that include young people getting good quality education, employment and young people benefiting from the economy of our province.”
Meanwhile our sister publication, Mpumalanga News quoted one of the residents who decided to do her house chores instead of voting, Ms Nomfundo Ngomane had this to say:
“I don’t think my voting is doing justice for me. Ever since I started voting in 1994, politicians are not fulfilling their promises. They are always lamenting about better life for all while there are few individuals that are benefiting or enjoying the better life .Even those who oppose, once they get into power, they don’t do anything as they were just trying to score political points with their manifestos, ” she explained.
