MBOMBELA – The Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC, Mr Vusi Shongwe has commended the security cluster for ensuring safe elections in all voting stations across the province.
He said only a few small incidents were reported. Police officials and other security officers were deployed in various stations where they ensured safety and that the elections process ran smoothly.
“In areas where violence were reported, police managed to restore the areas to a calm and secured state,” said Shongwe.
He also commended the tolerance displayed by residents of all three regions during the elections.
“We have seen how mischievous people take advantage of large events such as elections to commit crime or other illicit activities,” he said.
The MEC said the province’s success with regard to recent elections indicated that Mpumalanga was ready to hold events of any magnitude in the future.
“We should also congratulate our communities for having behaved well before and during the elections because their cooperation with IEC officials made it possible for the province to have relatively free and fair elections,” said Shongwe.
