Learners with braids sent home

One learner, who commented on condition of anonymity, fearing victimisation by the teachers, said it was not happening for the first time.

JERUSALEM – Concerned parents of learners of Jerusalem High have expressed disappointment regarding the school’s principal and teachers.

They claim that some learners were roaming around the streets during school hours because they had been apparently sent home because they had braided hair.

“I was surprised to see schoolgirls on the street around midday and as a concerned parent I asked them why they were not at school.

“I was shocked when they told me they had been chased away from school,” said Ms Lucia Maluka.

Maluka added that the girls told her they had been instructed by one of the schoolteachers not to return if they had not removed the braids.
