Water project to address backlog

The water project will supply water from Thekwane to the Dwaleni area, including Themba Hospital which government wants it to be separate from the KaNyamazane Water Scheme.

THEKWANE NORTH – Residents in the area stand to benefit immensely from a water project which is currently taking shape in this community. This comes as the initiative, aimed at addressing the water backlog that both the area and other townships are faced with, has employed a number of locals.

Speaking to this publication, the executive mayor of Mbombela Local Municipality, Cllr Cathy Dlamini, indicated that it was part of the Karino Water Scheme, which consisted of three projects that were running concurrently in the area.

She added it included the construction of a pipeline, reservoir and the upgrading of the Karino Water Scheme.”All these projects will address the water problems of the community and surrounding areas,” she said.

Dlamini added the reservoir would supply water from Thekwane to the Dwaleni area, including Themba Hospital which they wanted to separate from the KaNyamazane Water Scheme. She said this was due to the location of both water plants.

“The projects have been good because the reservoir will benefit us as a community and people have been employed because of it,” said one resident, Mr Vuli Mahlangu.

Another local working on the same project, Ms Anna Lubisi, said she was happy to be employed.
