Mayor refutes canvassing ploy

"We know that there are some areas that still needs to be address but we are getting there "

NELSVILLE – The Mbombela executive mayor, Cllr Cathy Dlamini, has refuted rumours that her recent mayoral imbizo held in three different villages last week was just a ploy to gain votes for the ANC in the general elections.

Dlamini told this paper that the imbizo was an annual activity and that it had nothing to do with the elections.

“Those people who are saying this was part of the campaign actually feel threatened and they have come to their senses that the government is listening and working for its people.

“We are not going to stop today just because of the elections. We know our mandate as the ANC government, elected by the people. We will continue with our progammes aimed at giving services to our people,” she said.

Dlamini, joined by her municipal manager, Mr Sello Ditshego and councillors, embarked on a three-day community outreach programme where they took part in the cleaning of streets and municipal buildings and interacted with communities.

The imbizo began at the Nelsville Community Hall.

“During this programme we give our people a voice to raise their concerns so that we know where we are still lacking.

“This is part of taking the the government directly to the people so that they get to interact and engage with us on issues concerning their communities.”

“Yes, it is true that the elections are just around the corner, and it is important for our people to always remember that the ANC delivers.

“We know that there are some areas that still need to be addressed but we are getting there.

”All we ask for is just little more time and we will change everybody’s lives,” concluded Dlamini.
