Community furious with suspect

Hundreds gathered outside the court hoping that he would be granted bail so they could attack him.

BUSHBUCKRIDGE – On Monday chaos erupted at Mhala Magistrate’s Court when a suspect appeared on a charge of murder at Cottondale Village last week.

Community members are furious at the suspect who robbed his neighbour on her way home.

Hundreds gathered outside the court hoping that he would be granted bail so they could attack him.

“We wanted to do to him what he did to that poor woman. He is used to stealing from us but this time he went too far. We cannot tolerate this,” said Mr Amos Masuku who phoned Mpumalanga News and stated that the public would not rest until such people were removed from the village.

“We do not condone mob justice, but when situations require us as the community to stand up and act, we will do so,” he added.

According to Masuku, the victim was on her way home from work when the perpetrator grabbed her handbag and tried to run away with it. She apparently saw him and called him by name.

He then returned and fatally stabbed her. The woman died on the scene and witnesses who had heard her call the suspect’s name, notified the police.
