Education Department receives biggest budget

This comes after the department's MEC, Mr Madala Masuku indicated that the DoE will receive a total of R16, 1 billion and the Health department will be allocated a budget of R 8, 91 billion.

MBOMBELA – Both the Department of Education (DoE) and Health are expected to receive the biggest pieces of the cake than their sister departments following the announcement of this fiscal year’s budget allocation by the Department of Finance.

This comes after the department’s MEC, Mr Madala Masuku indicated that the DoE will receive a total of R16, 1 billion and the Health department will be allocated a budget of R 8, 91 billion.

The announcement was made yesterday at the provincial Legislature that other departments such as the officer of the premier will receive R 205, 3 million while the department of Public Works, Roads and Transport will get R 4, 1 billion.

As a result the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development and Land Administration is given R 1, 07 billion, Economic Development, Environment and Tourism will receive R 861, 7 million while the department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison will be provided with R 1,027 billion.

“A budget of amounting to R 418,7 million is set aside for the Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs,” Masuku said.

He added that the provincial legislature will be allocated with a budget of R 273, 4 million and his department will receive R 268,1 million.

The department of Culture, Sports and Recreation will receive a total of R 442, 2 million and the Social Development department will receive R 1,2 billion.

This will also see the department of Human Settlement being allocated with an amount of R 1,3 billion.
