COPE disagrees with Mabuza’s water provision claims

Ndlovu added that service delivery protests that continue to engulf the province at large were evidence that water problem is always in the top of the agenda.

NELSPRUIT – The Congress of the People has challenged  the 94.9 percent figure that Premier David Mabuza said was how far the province had increased in terms of water provision to the community.

Mabuza said during his State of the Province Address last week that recent municipal annual reports indicate that Mpumalanga has achieved an increase of water provision from 77.1% to 94.9%”.

“This sounds like some kind of an ironic and fictitious tale because in the real sense of life the people of Mpumalanga are still experiencing very serious water shortages,” said COPE’s provincial chairman, Sizile Ndlovu.

Ndlovu added that service delivery protests that continue to engulf the province at large were evidence that water problem is always in the top of the agenda.

“As COPE we are surprised as to how the premier managed to reach these figures and believe that they are not the true reflection of the real situation within communities,” continued Ndlovu.

The opposition party also claimed that nearly all the municipalities in the province are experiencing water problems.
