MBOMBELA – The preparations for the delivery of the State of the Province Address (SOPA) are proceeding well.

This important annual event, which will be held tomorrow, comes immediately after the state president has delivered the State of the Nation Address in parliament in Cape Town. This will be the sixth time the premier, Mr DD Mabuza, will deliver the speech, his last for this term, before the 2014 elections.

To ensure wider public access, the legislature has secured satellite-broadcast venues in the three districts. These will take place at Emjindini Community Hall, Waterval Boven Community Hall and at Secunda’s Sasol Club in eMbalenhle. It is estimated that about 700 people will attend. “The main event will take place at the legislature where a specially designed chamber will accommodate about

1 200 people. All former speakers, premiers and business people are expected to be part of the address which will also be a celebration of South Africa’s 20 years of democracy.

“In consultation with Department of Culture, Sports and Recreation, we have identified a local imbongi (praise singer) and local artists for entertainment,” reads a statement.
