ANCYL’s head encourages youth to register

MBOMBELA – Newly elected chairperson of the ANC Youth League (Ancyl) in the province, Mr Desmond Moela, says he is adamant to restore the original identity of the youth league in terms of presence, vibrancy and engagement.

It was clear that he took the advice given by provincial chairperson of the ANC, Mr DD Mabuza, during his keynote address at the league’s provincial conference in Secunda a few weeks ago, when he challenged the incoming leadership to emulate the leaders of the past generation who were hands-on, highly engaging and yet respectful.

This newspaper asked for comment from the young people who attended Moela’s “voter registration” roadshows at the Nelspruit Shisanyama and Cappello this past weekend, and these were the phrases they used to describe him, “leader with great potential”, “a people’s person”, “a humble leader”, “a key leader”, among others. Moela addressed hundreds of youngsters and young adults who cheered at him as he took to the podium.

At both venues, his address focused on encouraging the youth and all to protect the legacy of the past generation. He encouraged them to go out in numbers and register to vote before the president gazetted the announced election day, May 7, after which registration would close. Moela was clearly a strong ally to the provincial chairperson of the ANC, as he arrived at Cappello wearing an ANC golf shirt with the words “100% DD Mabuza” on the back.

He and his team of volunteers handed out red berets and yellow ANC T-shirts to those present. Kaspero and Gamelihle serenaded the guests with their ANC songs. DJs Chrizozo and Sfiso were also there to entertain guests.
