Man found guilty of murder of ex-wife

Mzimba then pushed her with the front of the truck against the wall, reversed and drove into her again, knocking her against the wall which then collapsed

NELSPRUIT – A man has been found guilty of murder after he had crushed his ex-wife with a truck in 2012. Daniel Buti Mzimba (41) was found guilty in the Circuit Pretoria High Court on charges of murder, robbery and assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm.

Judge Collin Lamont found him guilty and sentenced him to 25 years’ imprisonment for murder and seven years for assault. Both sentences are to run concurrently.

On February 13, 2012, Mzimba from Burgersfort, called his son to ask about his ex-wife, Ms Edith ‘Eddy’ Moyane’s wherabouts. He was told she was at Tubatse Primary School where she worked as a cook.

Mzimba, who was driving a furniture truck belonging to his boss, drove past the school gates, damaging it in the process, and drove over Moyane’s feet. He then aimed the vehicle at the victim again, who was by then in a seated position near a kitchen wall.
Mzimba then pushed her with the front of the truck against the wall, reversed and drove into her again, knocking her against the wall which then collapsed.

Moyane sustained severe head injuries and Mzimba fled on foot. She was pronounced dead on the scene. She died of multiple blunt-force injuries.

He also attacked his ex-wife and her two sisters on December 23, 2011 with a wooden plank and robbed them.
